Part III Passing Down Genetics and Family
Part III Passing Down Genetics and Family: A child is a combination of genes of which they get half from mom and half from dad. Usually these genes are happy together, but what if there are differences? This part reflects again on the challenges of genomic decision and challenges us to expand our sense of what “health” is or whose life has value.
The Story Within by Amy Boesky is comprised of essay stories created by various people. These stories explore what is involved in making decisions about genetic diseases and how genetic information shapes the ways we see ourselves, the world, and our actions within it. This book was created in hopes to expand conversations about genetics and identity. It has also increased debate and generated questions. All of their stories remind us that genetic health is very complicated and deeply personal.
