Part I Finding Out: Genetics and Ideas of Self

Part I Finding Out: Genetics and Ideas of Self brings awareness to the challenges of genetic decisions such as: whether to be tested, who to tell, whether to have children, and whether and how to treat children medically, if treatment is available.

The Story Within by Amy Boesky is comprised of essay stories created by various people. These stories explore what is involved in making decisions about genetic diseases and how genetic information shapes the ways we see ourselves, the world, and our actions within it. This book was created in hopes to expand conversations about genetics and identity. It has also increased debate and generated questions. All of their stories remind us that genetic health is very complicated and deeply personal.
