Rochester Art Center will host monthly gatherings as a way to realize the goals of artist parent Eamon O’Kane’s child oriented interactive art installation, Froebel’s Studio: Institute of Creativity. Bring your children to play and listen to invited parent artists tell their stories about the journey as artists and parents. Eamon O’Kane transformed his art practice when he became a father in order to create an art installation that both young children and their parents could participate in, to use shapes and forms and make art together. Each of the Minnesota creatives invited to speak will discuss how their art practice changed due to becoming a parent. The program is free and open to the public, milk and cookies provided.
March 10 | 10AM—Noon | Heather Ritenour-Sampson & Brandon Sampson
Heather Ritenour-Sampson & Brandon Sampson, are multi-passionate musicians, artists, entrepreneurs, and parents who are committed to living a creative life. As musicians, they call themselves “The Dovetailers,” which refers not only to singing songs about love, but also to the concept of dovetailing as verb — one is always picking up where the other left off — whether it be driving kids to soccer tournaments or dance class, finishing dinner, or picking up the end of a verse. After close to 15 years of marriage, 3 kids, 2 brick and mortar businesses and a handful of creative side projects, Heather and Brandon see dovetailing as the definition of teamwork, and also love the reference to the woodworking joint that once put together, is so strong it is impossible to pull apart.
They will share stories, songs and insights into living a creative life and raising a creative family — the sacrifices and the rewards, the chaos and the joy!
