Dr. Priya Sampathkumar | Head of Infection Prevention and Control at Mayo Clinic
Artist | Simon Huelsbeck
Preparing for a pandemic starts with learning about what the disease does, and how it’s effects can be mitigated. The Head of the Infection Prevention and Control for Mayo Clinic, Dr. Priya Sampathkumar, has been tirelessly working since before day one to ensure that her staff are in the best position possible to mitigate the effects of COVID-19. From the early days of January, Dr. Sampathkumar was working with her team to prepare Mayo Clinic and continued with initiating studies for testing antibodies and the prevalence of asymptomatic COVID-19 carriers. We often take emergency planning for granted until it’s too late. Dr. Sampathkumar’s work proves that smart planning and tireless work can make a difference in ways that we cannot even fathom.
Nominated by Dr. Nipunie Rajapakse, Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Mayo Clinic
