Ribbon Cutting & Artist Talk
Thursday, May 19 at 11:00 AM | Free
Community members are invited to join us for a ribbon cutting ceremony as we celebrate a newly completed mural in the entry corridor of the Rochester Art Center. The mural was designed by June Le with input from students and adult residents who attended workshops facilitated by artist Roshan Ganu. Mural designer June Le will give a brief artist talk following the ribbon cutting.
As Rochester grows into a more diverse and international city, the Rochester Art Center strives to highlight and celebrate a plurality of voices through the stories of transplants, immigrants and long-time residents who decided to make Minnesota their home. The creation of a participatory mural in the Entry Corridor Gallery, located on the first floor at the Art Center, showcases this commitment and invites visitors to “meet” the people of Rochester as they enter the building.
We are grateful to June Le for her beautiful translation of what the community felt was important to highlight about Rochester. We also want to express gratitude to curator Zoe Cinel for bringing June to our sphere, Allegra Lockstadt for her support to June throughout the process, Amy Garretson for coordinating the three community workshops that provided the content for the design along with Roshan Ganu for facilitating and all of the participants, the many volunteers who helped fill the mural with color, all the Art Center staff who supported the project in its various stages, and last but not least, Think Bank for their generous support to ensure the completion of the mural.
