Call for Proposals
Artist Designed Mini Golf Inspired by Iconic Modern and Contemporary Chairs

The Rochester Art Center is seeking proposals for five indoor mini-golf holes designed by artists that will accompany an exhibition of iconic chairs. The exhibition will run from Wednesday, November 13, 2024 to Sunday, May 4, 2025.

A jury composed of artists, curators and mini golf experts will select five proposals by five different artists / artistic collectives that will each receive a $5,000 stipend.

Holes will be inspired by modern and contemporary chair design and architecture selected from the Ruth and Dave Klawiter collection by  Rochester Art Center Curator, Zoe Cinel. Successful proposals must demonstrate a strong conceptual or visual connection inspired by one of the chairs in the exhibition. Applications open January 12, 2024, and close March 11, 2024 at 11:45 pm. Applicants will be notified of decisions by April 19.

The mini golf hole will be installed between October 1 and November 1, 2024 and remain on view through May 4, 2025. The selected artists / artistic collectives will be responsible for the ideation, production and installation of  a mini golf hole that should withstand use by visitors to the Art Center for the duration of the exhibition. Periodic progress updates will be expected, aligned to an agreed-upon schedule with the Rochester Art Center Executive Director, the Art Center Curator, and Minneapolis-based consultants and mini-golf experts A Couple of Putts.
